Sara Goldberg, Community Social Worker

COMMUNITY SOCIAL WORKER

Sara Goldberg, MSW, ASW

As the in-house social worker for the Jewish Federation of Sacramento Region, I am here to connect you to community resources and services, provide crisis stabilization, advocate for your needs, and complete intake assessments to determine eligibility for our in-house services. I am also available to respond to inquiries about food and financial insecurity, as well as senior services. We partner with local rabbis to better understand and address congregational and community needs. I am humbled to be a part of the vision we have to serve our community.

If you require assistance, I would love to hear your story and learn how we can best support your needs.
Please contact Sara Goldberg at 916-838-9086 or email her at socialworker@jewishsac.org.

GROCERY GIFT CARDS

As part of our efforts to address food insecurity in our community, Jewish Family Services provides Grocery Gift Cards to help with purchases at local grocery stores: Trader Joe’s, Save Mart, and Safeway. This program is for those who are able to go grocery shopping for themselves or their family.

If you are experiencing financial hardship and struggling to put food on the table while waiting for your next paycheck or SSI disbursement, please reach out—we’d be happy to see if our food assistance program is a good fit for you.

KOSHER MEAL DELIVERY PROGRAM (KMD)

The KMD program provides care and connection to those in need by delivering Kosher Shabbat meals to those in the community who are homebound and vulnerable for any number of reasons, including frailty, recovering from illnesses/surgery, or dealing with short or long-term illness. KMD offers an opportunity for volunteers to deliver the meals.

We have available spaces, and if you feel this service might meet your needs, please get in touch with our in-house social worker to schedule a phone appointment for an intake assessment to see if our service would be helpful for you.

THERAPIST REFERRAL NETWORK

Jewish Family Service has a Therapist Referral Network to help us assist community members in finding a mental health professional that is right for them.

Click HERE to add your name to the list if you are a mental health professional and are interested in becoming part of our Referral Network.

Contact Sara Goldberg, Community Socialworker, if you are looking for a referral.

TRANSPORTATION

The Transportation Fund is made possible by the Transportation Endowment, created by two caring and dedicated lay leaders in our community. Jewish Family Services can provide Paratransit and Uber gift cards on an annual basis, for individuals who are unable to drive, facing financial hardship, experiencing a car breakdown, or attending medical appointments.

Please be aware that you must have a Paratransit ID card to schedule Paratransit rides. Please reach out for more information on how to apply for a Paratransit ID card.

JEWISH HOLIDAY OUTREACH BAGS

In partnership with community volunteers, the Federation facilitates the delivery of holiday outreach bags to homebound individuals during Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah, and Passover. We aim to provide a warm and sweet connection. If you know someone in need of a touchpoint or some extra TLC, call or email the Federation at federation@jewishsac.org

SENIOR PROGRAMS

We plan a variety of programs to engage empty nesters and seniors in building community and finding enriching social opportunities. We are planning our calendar for this year, and we will have more updates soon; please check back here and on our weekly eVoice for event postings.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Are you interested in performing a Mitzvah? We are always looking for caring individuals to assist our Jewish community members in need. Check our weekly EVoice postings for opportunities, or register to be a volunteer HERE.
